Sometimes it's fun to make landscape work an exercise in minimalism. This was shot on a family road trip this July from Washington to Iowa. This is a barely-marked roadside overlook in South Dakota, and I love how the prairie just stretches out to the horizon, with only a tree to give a sense of scale. It was shot on an old film camera, the popular Canon AE1 and Kodak Ektachrome slide film, which gives a great pop to the greens and blues. I also love how the lo-fi grain lets the horizon fade in the distance, losing some of the clinical sharpness of digital. Lightly toned and cropped to 2x1 in Lightroom after scanning.
