This was photographed standing outside the guardrail of Highway 1 on the Northern California coast in summer 2023. I'd learned that we were expecting exceptional sunset conditions (shoutout to Escaype for the forecast) so I hit the road and headed north. Finding unfavorable conditions where I initially stopped, I kept driving further looking for the break in the clouds at the horizon that I needed. When I finally the sun was already below the clouds so I only had a few minutes before it would set. I found narrow spot to pull over, and hoofed it back up to the outer part of the bend where I could get in position to shoot the sun with the multiple headlands along the rugged coast. The rare conditions really make the shot and I was thrilled to be there to catch it.
