I would really like to say that I planned this shot for days, with multiple attempts until all the stars aligned, but honestly, I just got really lucky.
I arrived around lunch time with a thunderstorm rolling in, treat of heavy hail and the most disappointing weather forecast you could ask for. After a couple of hours of waiting in the car for the heavy rain to pass I started walking around to see if I could find a good view of the Devil's Tower. The weather forecast slightly improved from before so I settled for this view and waited for sunset hoping for the best, and boy the best arrived.
My luck continued after dark, the sky cleared out completely and I was able to get some shots of the Milky Way in one of the darkest places in the U.S. (you can check the other photo in my profile if you're curious).
