This image is a sunrise captured in Orange County, California. I was capturing a time-lapse video of the sunrise itself just on the other side of a hill, and had never before looked over the top of the hill to see in this direction. However, as the clouds began to "light on fire" overhead, I decided to see what was over here, and I'm very glad that I did because the trail aligned quite neatly with the cloud patterns, making this one of my favorite images. The trail is also now one of my favorite hiking spots.

A faint inversion layer was present as well; this location is on the Southern California Coast and inversion layers are usually very fleeting. This hilltop is at around 1,000 ft in elevation, which gives very little room for an inversion layer to be present and yet also visible from above it. (I lost count of how many times I tried to capture this type of image, only to be completely skunked by thick fog/cloud layers...)

The camera and lens were a Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN on the Sony A7R IV; this is a single exposure with minimal processing. It was one of those sunrises that was so colorful, I actually had to be very careful to avoid clipping the highly saturated colors in the clouds, even dialing down the red and orange saturation a tiny bit.
