This was one of the clearest days I have ever seen in Southern California. On this same day, at sunrise, the Hollywood sign was visible from Newport Beach, CA, approximately 50 miles away.
For this iconic Downtown Los Angeles moonrise at sunset photo to happen, multiple "perfect conditions need to happen. The alignment of the moonrise and the skyline only happens a few times per year, and having snow on the local mountains is similarly rare. Lastly, clear views are exceedingly rare, because the Los Angeles area is prone to both natural haze and man-made smog. For such clear skies to occcur, substantial rains need to be followed by extremely calm conditions.
