I shot this photo as part of a collaboration with a friend whose cancer had recently returned. Upon learning she would have to undergo a mastectomy, we agreed to use the camera to commemorate her body before she goes through this permanent change.
According to her, it's a way of reclaiming agency. By posing in front of the camera, she declares: “I am not a statistic.”
