It's amazing how some of us can capture these truly dramatic and dangerous moments, yet the people judging these contests will still rate a shot like this less than 3 stars. I don't think they understand what it takes to not only take a photo while lives are at risk, but to also have the presence of mind to compose it well and try to capture the decisive moment.

The biggest challenge of a photojournalistic image is telling a big part of the whole story with a single frame that was taken in a fraction of a second. This photo does that. Anyone who rates it less than 3 stars minimum would likely never put themselves in a position like this, and probably sits down when they pee.

Nice shot, Terry.

Thanks Ed. Your comments are very kind. I am amazed that the camera becomes my invisible shield when raised to my eye. As a Navy Combat Cameraman I was equipped just like the Marines in my photo but raised a Nikon instead of my M16.
