"Lockdown"

This image was taken on a misty morning in 2021, during a time when the pandemic still weighed heavily on my hometown, Livorno, Italy. The strict lockdown meant that we could only leave our homes for "essential reasons." That night, as I worked restlessly, I noticed an unusual blanket of fog settling over the city – a rare phenomenon for our coastal town. Unable to sleep, I decided to make the most of this unique moment and set out around 6 a.m., camera in hand, heading to Terrazza Mascagni, a historic and iconic spot in Livorno.

The terrace, usually offering an open view of the sea, was enveloped in dense fog, erasing the horizon and creating an almost surreal, isolated atmosphere. The dramatic setting felt like a perfect metaphor for the time we were living through – a world shrouded in uncertainty, with familiar views obscured.

Amidst this scene, I noticed a solitary figure: a man walking his dog, head down, wearing a mask despite being alone in the open air. His presence, coupled with the surrounding mist, added an unexpected emotional weight to the image, echoing the isolation and vigilance of those times. This photograph, titled "Lockdown," captures a fleeting moment of solitude, resilience, and caution that defined our shared experience during the pandemic.

To give a clearer idea of the dense fog that covered the city that morning, I’ve included a second image as an additional attachment. Unfortunately, I had to upload it separately, but I hope it conveys the unique, rare atmosphere that drew me out of my home that day.

The photo required minimal editing, as the natural elements and the man’s solitary form already conveyed a powerful narrative. I am grateful that it has resonated with others, leading to its selection for multiple exhibitions. I look forward to hearing your feedback and want to say a special thank you – I always watch your videos, and they help me a lot in my photographic journey.

Thank you so much!
