These weather conditions are pretty rare in Ottawa, Canada. After a rainy and extremely windy spell, the winter temperatures dropped overnight from above zero to around -10°C. As a result, all the rain and moisture in the air froze on the tree branches, covering them in ice. This photo was taken first thing in the morning from the shoulder of a local road, where a single dead maple tree—frozen solid—stood surrounded by jack pines. I included the foreground of frozen shrubs to frame the shot and keep the composition clean. The image is worth seeing up close.
