After a frigid snow dump came through a few years ago, I went out early the next morning before any footprints might have ruined the photoshoot. Fortunately there was no wind so the trees had a thick coating of ice. I liked this park bench sitting by itself at the end of a walkway with a lake in the background. The overhanging branches, heavy from the ice, provided a nice frame, while the sidewalk provided a leading line. I love all the delicate icycles hanging from the bench. This peaceful spot looked as if it was sitting dormant and patiently waiting for spring.
I left some slight bluish tones in the shadows to keep the image cool rather than go full black and white. A heavy vignette was also applied to draw the eye more to the bench. I left the aperture fairly wide to blur the foreground for the same reason. Just enough to not be distracting but not so much that you could not recognize that these were tree branches. Shot on a Nikon D3200, 18 mm, ISO 100 with a polarizer.
