This photograph uses flash as the dominant light source to freeze motion and create a highly stylized, kinetic feel in an outdoor industrial location. The subject was lit with a strobe modified with MagMod gels to produce layered magenta and blue tones, while the surrounding environment was allowed to fall into deep shadow.
A grid was used to tightly control spill and prevent light from washing over the background. The challenge here was managing motion while working in low ambient light and ensuring the colored flash remained directional and intentional rather than chaotic. Timing, subject movement, and flash duration all played a critical role in achieving sharpness while preserving the expressive gesture.
