This was one of the first shots of the day shooting near the Edenvale Winery in southern Oregon. As the birthplace of the Oregon pear industry there were lot of great spots throughout the vineyard and orchard areas, but this one called out to us from the moment we got there.
We didn't have a lot of time to prepare, and I had limited time with the model before we had to jump to another location, but Khalia was an amazing subject and had wonderful grace and movement. It wasn't easy wrangling that dress but she did a fantastic job. I also had one other person helping me, and she would lift the dress and quickly jump out of frame while Khalia stepped into position. It took a few tries to get the timing down with the flash but in the end we had some great movement with the dress that I was happy with.
With the harsh sun coming from behind I had to crank the flash up quite a bit to contend with the harsh shadows. The sun did give us some great rim light on her hair though, which was needed for some separation from the busy leaves behind her, and she has some amazing hair that would've gotten lost otherwise.
The dress itself was really unique with a lot of wrinkles and folds that reflected the light in interesting ways. Originally they were going to steam it smooth but I'm glad we decided not to.
