This image was captured on location along a waterfront pier at sunset, using deliberate off-camera flash and in-camera color control to create strong separation between subject and environment. The scene was photographed during blue hour, with the camera’s white balance intentionally cooled to push the ambient sky and water toward deep blue tones.

A Godox AD200 was used as the primary off-camera light, fitted with a MagMod full CTO gel. By cooling the camera’s white balance while warming the flash output, the subject’s skin tones remain natural and dimensional while the background shifts cooler. This complementary color contrast enhances depth, form, and visual impact without overpowering the ambient light.

The flash exposure was carefully balanced to support the existing light at sunset, preserving highlight detail and maintaining a believable outdoor atmosphere.
