Apple Working More Closely With Customers on New Mac Pro, Says It Will Be Released in 2019

While the iMac recently entered the realm of professional-level capabilities with the Pro line, many users still want a dedicated machine decoupled from the display, and for Apple users, the ultimate such device is the Mac Pro, which has been awaiting an update for quite some time now. Apple has confirmed the update will be released in 2019 and says it's working closely with professional customers on its design.

In a recent interview with Tech Crunch, Apple confirmed the news, saying they want to be "transparent and communicate openly with [their] pro community" and that the new Mac Pro will be released in 2019. The company is working closely with creatives who rely on the machines, hiring some of them to shoot in-house projects and monitoring their usage of the machines to get realtime feedback and better understand their work habits and computing needs, which Apple says will help shape the direction of development. Further good news is that the new Mac Pros will be more modular, allowing users to upgrade and swap components. How modular they'll be remains to be seen. Nonetheless, it appears Apple is providing far more transparency about the development of the new line than usual, which is certainly good for those awaiting news on it. spam much?

Sorry but he's correct. That garbage can Mac design is a total shit-ass embarrassment.

I was referring to the link he embedded in his post.

Just bring back the 2009-2012 Mac Pro design

Had to switch to Hackintoshes… 'nuff said.

Upgradability, price. The cost of owning this trash can is absurd.

The current Mac Pro has gotten a bum rap. I recently replaced my old 13" MacBook Pro with a modest 6-core Mac Pro and cut my batch processing time by a factor of four. Nice! Plus, I can now hook up my two 27" displays. I didn't want an iMac because I'm committed to NEC displays. I keep projects in progress on the speedy internal SSD, and finished work is archived on external Thunderbolt and USB3 RAIDs and single drives.
Yeah, a 12-core would cut batch processing by about another 50%, but it wasn't worth another grand to me. Video folks might be hankering for that last extra ounce of performance, but for my high-volume event photo biz, this setup is everything I could want, the price was reasonable, and it plays nicely with all my existing peripherals.
As for the "trashcan" form factor, I like it. Silent, lots of ports, and it takes up minimal space. Don't need upgradeable video cards, and all my storage is external, as it should be: in the event the Mac Pro fails, I can just plug into my MBP and keep working.
