Blackmagic Production Camera FINALLY Will Format SSDs In-Camera

Blackmagic Production Camera FINALLY Will Format SSDs In-Camera

Really, really good news out of Blackmagic today, as they just informed me that they have updated the firmware of the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K to allow for in-camera formatting of the SSD. So will this be coming to the Pocket Cinema Camera and the Cinema Camera? Yes, yes it will.

You can download the new Firmware v1.9.5 so you can now directly format an SSD to HFS+ or exFAT within the camera. This is a huge deal, as one of the few remaining gripes about the system is now solved.

I was also told that they will be rolling out this functionality in the Blackmagic Cinema Camera and the Pocket Cinema Camera shortly, and if the wait time is anything like the last firmware update was, that means we should see it in one to two months if not sooner.

Bring it to the BMCC! I feel like a second-class citizen. Now if only they could make the battery removable with firmware!

Blackmagic, lots of promise, no (or VERY slow) delivery...

Yea, saw that John Brawley had the URSA a few weeks ago, but not sure if it's actually shipping or not. Everyone except Black Magic says it's a pre-order still.
