Canon Releases 4K Mirrorless M50

Canon has taken a while to extend their mirrorless range of cameras, and they’ve also stalled on giving 4K to the masses. I’m not sure why they’ve taken so long, but Peter McKinnon runs us through what to expect with the new Canon M50.

For the vloggers, it has a rotating LCD monitor so you can frame yourself perfectly. It’s one of the things I see video-based shooters complain about the most, and now Canon has added it.

Because of the APSC sensor, your full-frame lenses are going to crop. For me, that’s normal as I shoot with a Fujifilm X-T2 and not really an issue. It’s just more of a calculated decision when buying a lens.

Slow-motion

Now here’s where I agree with Peter. Giving 60fps at 1080p is great, but 120fps at 720p is really not something we’re thinking about as an advantage. It’s 2018, we shoot 1080p at minimum. Peter McKinnon has become a b-roll master, and 120fps is something he uses to make us drool over the footage.

Stabilization

They call it Dual-Sensing Image Stabilization. There’s a chip that compensates for sensor-shake. It’s not a dedicated IBIS, but you’ll have some stabilization. To make it work you’ll need to be using one of their image-stabilizing lenses.

Conclusion

It looks small enough to add to the bag. Not for your photography really, but definitely for BTS or marketing on your Instagram stories.

Nope.

I think it would've made a bigger impact, especially in the vlogging community, if the Dual Pixel AF was supported in a non-cropped 4K-mode.

Hope the majority of people here realize this camera isn't necessarily targeted for them. This is a great entry level/vlogging camera.

Grief, what an impact (smh)...

The fan boy army growing weaker with every new release.

Just another Canon's dud.
