Canon’s Latest CINE-SERVO Lens Targets Broadcast and Virtual Production

Canon has announced the CINE-SERVO 11-55mm T2.95-3.95, a new cinema zoom designed for productions ranging from sports and live events to broadcast and scripted projects. The lens covers Super 35 sensors natively and can expand to full frame when using its built-in 1.5x extender.

At its widest, the lens provides a 100-degree field of view, which Canon notes is broader than its previous cine-servo offerings. The 11mm focal length is equivalent to 4.1mm on a 2/3-inch broadcast camera, making it especially suited for capturing large environments.

The CINE-SERVO 11-55mm incorporates Canon’s latest drive unit, offering faster focus and iris response along with Focus Breathing Compensation. A built-in USB-C connector allows users to adjust settings, while a 16-bit absolute value encoder provides precise positional data for virtual production workflows.

The lens will be offered in both RF and PL mounts. The RF version supports Canon’s autofocus system, while the PL mount is compatible with Cooke/i and Zeiss eXtended Data. Canon also lists support for ARIA (Automatic Restoration of Illumination Attenuation) and ALAC (Automatic Lens Aberration Correction) with compatible cameras.

Weighing just over 6 pounds, the lens is intended to balance well on handheld rigs, jibs, and stabilization systems, making it versatile for mobile shooting environments.
