Cheap, But Powerful: A Review of the Venus Optics Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO Lens

Most macro lenses provide 1:1 magnification. However, if you want even more powerful capabilities, the Venus Optics Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO lens can offer double the magnification of standard macro lenses, and it comes in at quite an affordable price as well. How does it perform in practice? This great video review answers that question.

Coming to you from Dustin Abbott, this excellent video review takes a look at the Venus Optics Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO lens. Coming in at just $399, the 65mm f/2.8 is a very affordable lens that offers some rather unique capabilities. Of course, to get to that price point, some compromises had to be made. Thankfully, image quality has not suffered, as it is quite good. Along with the excellent image quality comes solid build quality and great bokeh. The compromises come with the lack of any electronics, which means you won't be able to get EXIF data from the lens, no autofocus (which won't bother most macro photographers, though those hoping to have the lens double as a portrait lens should take note), and a lack of weather-sealing. While these might bother some photographers, altogether, it looks like a very high-quality lens at an excellent price. Check out the video above for Abbott's full thoughts.

Surprise that doesn't come in MFT mount.

Image quality is more than "quite good", did you even watch the review you're passing on? Why not do your own review?
