I've been pretty keen on the Insta360 GO 2 for a while now, and now the company has given users a reason to be twice as keen about the camera, with a new 64GB version that doubles the memory of the original.
To recap the highlights about the Insta360 GO 2, it's a different take on the action camera formula pioneered by the likes of GoPro. It's about the size of a thumb, and is capable of shooting 1440p 30fps video stabilized right in the camera or with software after the fact for even better stabilization. The camera uses Insta360's "FlowState Stabilization" to great effect and it's capable of producing pretty cool time-lapse and normal video. The only real knock I had on it for the review was its lackluster photography capabilities.
One thing that I didn't complain about was storage capability, but for my purposes, it never really came up. Between time-lapses, photos, and all other mixed forms of media the camera can take, the amount that could fit on the camera was a bit nebulous. I measured a 4.5-minute video clip at 1440p to come out to about 1.5 GB. Extrapolating from there, you'd be able to fit about 85 minutes or so of video on the camera (while it's rated at 32 GB, about 28 GB is what's usable on the camera).
If that's not enough for you, the new version doubles the memory for only a $30 premium over the original, or $329. If you think you might need it, it's the way to go since there's no way to expand the memory with a micro-SD card.
The camera is otherwise unchanged from its original version, with the new version aimed simply at giving users some more options before having to clear off the camera's memory.
“With the Insta360 GO 2 64 GB Edition, we hope users can spend more time enjoying the moment, rather than offloading clips onto their phone,” said Max Richter, Vice President of Marketing, in a press release from Insta360.
While both of the models of the camera represent a significant upgrade over the original, what I'm truly waiting for, if I'm being honest, is the Minions Edition, which the company promised at launch, but hasn't shipped yet. Now there's a truly unique form of meeting function.
