G-Technology Announces Two G-Speed Shuttle XL Transportable Eight-Bay Thunderbolt DAS Arrays

G-Technology updated its lineup today with the introduction of two eight-bay storage arrays made to be easily transportable. From enterprise-class hard drives for robust performance to handles on top of the units that let them be more easily moved from studio to car, to set, and back, the G-Speed Shuttle XLs are the ultimate on-the-go editor's dream direct-attached-storage system.

Each featuring eight bays, one version fills all slots with eight 3.5" hard drives while the other leaves two slots to be compatible with ev-series drives such as the G-Drive ev RaW, G-Drive ev 220, G-Drive ev RaW SSD, and G-Drive ev SSD. The G-Speed Shuttle XL with ev Series Bay Adapters runs at up to 1,200MB/s and includes six enterprise-class drives in capacities of 18TB through 48TB at prices from $3,299.95 to $5,999.95. Meanwhile, the eight-bay (non-ev) model runs at up to 1,350MB/s and includes eight enterprise-class drives in capacities of 24TB through 64TB at prices from $3,499.95 to $7,999.95.

While these prices are quite high, the fact that they're built for the road gives a combination of reliability for such tasks as well as performance suitable for any 4K workflow across Thunderbolt 2 connections. Both units were previewed back at CES, but are now shipping today.

The G-Speed Shuttle XL is said to weigh 23 pounds with its eight bays filled and will fit snuggly into a Pelican 1510 case for easy and safe transport.
