The Sony a7C is the latest in the popular a7 series, and it offers a marked departure in design from its predecessors while still including a lot of the company's most popular features. This excellent video review takes a look at the new camera and what you can expect from it in practice.
Coming to you from Julia Trotti, this great video review takes a look at the new Sony a7C mirrorless camera. The a7C is a very compact camera that stills pack a punch, including:
- 24.2-megapixel Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor
- 15 stops of dynamic range
- 4K video at up to 30 fps with 2.4x oversampling
- Full HD 1080p at up to 120 fps
- Extended ISO range of 50-204,800
- Burst rate of 10 fps
- Hybrid AF system with 693 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection points
- Real-time Eye AF and Tracking AF
- 5-axis in-body image stabilization
- 0.39" OLED EVF with 2.36-million-dot resolution
- 3.0" side-opening vari-angle touchscreen LCD
- Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- 20% smaller and lighter than other a7 series cameras
- Magnesium-alloy chassis with weather-sealing
- Single SD card slot with UHS-II support
While the a7C makes a compromise or two (most notably only having one card slot), it still looks to be a well-balanced and capable camera. Check out the video above for Trotti's full thoughts.
Can someone explain who this camera is for? Why wouldn't you for the same price, just get an A7III and have dual card slots?
People who want almost Leica quality photos in a light convenient package. Definitely not fStoppers readers.
Leica quality photos ? , I hope you are joking ....
By 'Leica quality' I think he means photos produced by a camera with a cool, retro style body that hipsters and people who wear black polo neck sweaters "simply adore".
Why could the A7C not produce almost Leica quality photos? Of course it could.
"leica quality" -- drink the kool aid much?
I'd say this camera is for idiots who think "leica quality" photos are a thing
This comment is amazing.
I'd love to put it on a gimbal and shoot video when I need, but the only thing that bothers me is 30fps @ 4K.
So, not for me :)
Banter aside, I really don't understand this camera's spot in the market. The A7iii isn't a big camera - no one was complaining that Sony cameras are tooooo big. And this camera would make total sense to me if it were say 1200-1300 dollars, but it's currently the same price as an A7III (which has more features). I guess I just don't see why?
Camera manufacturers like to offer design options within a system especially if it gives them bragging rights (however artificial). This model is for those who prefer a rangefinder form factor and value the roughly 20% less weight and size. Combined with a compact zoom or prime lens it's a good choice for street, travel, journalism and artistic photography. Plus it's $200 less than the a7 III.
I like rangefinder style better than hump in the middle.
The a7siii is actually almost exactly what I was waiting for......except I want 24mp.
I won't be buying a new camera again until I can get 10 bit 4:2:2 internal and 4k60 and at least 24mp with that new AF.
Don't really care if it needs to be cropped or have limited recording times. Heck I don't even care if it's FF or not...APSC would be fine.
Was really thinking Sony would be on it by now......but I feel like I've been waiting for forever since the a6300.
