How a Telephoto Lens Can Improve Your Landscape Photography

Wide angle lenses are almost always the first thing landscape photographers reach for, and, of course, there is a good reason why they are so popular in the genre. That being said, long telephoto lenses can produce equally interesting images and can actually be the better choice for certain images. This excellent video will show you some of what you can do with one and why it is so useful.

Coming to you from Nigel Danson, this great video discusses why a telephoto zoom lens can be so useful for landscape photography. Longer lenses are really useful for multiple reasons. The extra compression can make elements of the frame appear closer together, which can increase the drama of an image. Perhaps more importantly, in my opinion, they can solve a common problem in the genre, which is an overly busy frame. They allow you to pick out one or just a few elements in a scene and create simpler, more direct images that only contain what is absolutely necessary to tell the story. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Danson.
