My Favorite Flash System is On Sale

It's not often that my favorite flash system goes on sale, so when it does it's pretty big news. Now until August 31st, Profoto is offering up to $600 off their B10x and B10x Plus flash heads. If you looking to add to your kit or are wanting to switch over to a powerful and portable flash system that uses Profoto's light modifiers, this is a great deal to check out. 

Profoto is not doubt one of the highest regarded companies in the entire photography industry. Their flagship Pro-11 packs are common staples in professional photography studios around the world (and at $17,500 a pack, that says something), and their A10 and A2 flashes are extremely popular for wedding photographers and on-location portrait photographers who need a lot of power in a small form factor. 

While I love my A10 and A2 flashes (and lust after owning a Pro-11 pack), it is the Profoto B10x and B10x Plus lights that get the most use in my studio and out on location. The B10x system if sort of a bridge between the almost pocket sized A2 system and the much larger D2 and B1x studio Monolights. I own 3 B10x strobes and I have 1 B10x Plus which is a full stop more power for when I need to illuminate those larger softboxes or over power the sun out on location. They are my workhorses in the studio and unless I need to pack extremely light, the B10x system is what I pack in my roller bags 9 times out of 10. 

Not long ago I released a video showing a few different lighting setups you can do using 1 single light and a variety of different light modifiers including bouncing it off a ceiling and wall.  For this video I used a single Profoto B10x and a few different light modifiers I have in my small garage studio. What I love most about the Profoto system is that allof their light modifiers work across their A and B10x  lighting systems. From my experience the Profoto Speedring design is the best of any flash system and it makes switching out different softboxes, reflectors, grids, and beauty dishes super quick and easy.  While the A10 and A2 systems are designed to be as small as possible, even they can use the Clic OCF Adapter II to allow all your light modifiers to fit them too.  I have a new video coming out soon showing just how versatile the A2 system can be so stay tuned for that. 

The one big pill to swallow with the B10x system is the price; Profoto gear is expensive. It rarely goes on sale and the used value is always high enough that I prefer to just buy new. So when a sale does come along, I've found that it's a great opportunity to grab another unit or two to keep in my my studio or to pack in my location bag.

As mentioned, Profoto has been my favorite lighting system I've owned over the years and although the saying "light is light" is still true, I have to say owning and using a system that is well designed, easy to mount, modular, and has the best LCD screens and knobs does make for a more enjoyable experience.
