Today, Nikon has announced the latest addition to their mirrorless lineup, the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S. The lens offers a popular focal length at a relatively affordable price. Check out its specs here.
The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S is the latest lens for the company's Z mount, bringing the popular portrait focal length to the mirrorless system. Nikon claims the lens benefits from the wider and shallower Z mount, which allows for better edge sharpness even at the widest apertures. It also features nine rounded aperture blades, 12 elements in 8 groups (including 2 ED elements to minimize aberrations), Nano Crystal Coating to reduce ghosting and flares, silent autofocus and minimal focus breathing for video shooters, and a customizable control ring. The lens also features dust and moisture resistance and a Multi-Focus System for better resolving power near the minimum focus distance.
The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S is expected to be available in September of this year with a suggested price of $799, making it a potentially great, relatively affordable option for mirrorless shooters.
Very happy with my Nikon 84 1.4 on the FTZ right now, still looking forward to trying this one though.
Everyone bitching how it's not a "pro" lens because it's not an f/1.4 to commence in 3, 2...
I think it's good to give people options. Not everyone is a "pro". Commence hate on this comment in 3, 2...
Nah, that's DPReview. The armchair experts are all busy hating the look of the lens.
Damn you, I read this comment then headed over to DPreview, I now can’t un-see the comments... what a disgraceful community.
