The Nikon P900 and Its Crazy Zoom Lens Takes Us All the Way to the Lunar Surface

The Nikon Coolpix P900 has one monster zoom lens. With a 24-2000mm 35mm equivalence, this hybrid point-and-shoot camera really opens up the possibilities of what we are capable of capturing. In a new video from Sci-Tech Universe, we are able to see just how astonishing the results can be when they record video of the moon at full zoom.

We’ve previously shared a viral video taken with the Nikon P900 that zoomed up way closer than you originally anticipated when the video begins. It’s really no different here. Once the moon was almost all the way in the frame, I was thinking how incredible it was that this was possible to show so much clarity with a point-and-shoot. Then all of a sudden even more zoom kicks in and the moon is completely filling the frame, enough to pan around the surface a little bit without seeing the edge.

Truthfully, my real first thought was somewhat dismissive if you can believe it. I was thinking that the video was pretty shaky and the video quality was full of artifacts and the atmospheric haze wasn’t doing any favors. That’s when it hit me that nothing I’ve ever shot with has given me results anything near the quality of what I’m seeing here. Even if it the video has those things, this mid $500 camera is still outperforming bodies and lenses far more pricey.

I know this isn't a classified ad space, but for any fstopper's interested in this camera we have one listed on eBay. After the 'Breaking up is hard to do' article we were inspired to move on and sell any equipment we dont use regularly. We bought the P900 for personal project that we never had time for, so it's probably got <100 shutter clicks, essentially new. Just search eBay for buy it now, its the one sold by Sara. Make offer and mention fstoppers; we would prefer to sell to a fellow group member where it will actually get some use :)

It's not too big yet but there is a buy and sell "group" in the community as well

cool, thanks lee I'll check it out. we have like 6 more nikon bodies and about 8 more lenses that we don't really use... ill post them there :)
