OWC Announces New CFExpress A Cards and External SSDs

OWC Announces New CFExpress A Cards and External SSDs

OWC has announced a number of new storage products in advance of the NAB Show in Las Vegas. Their new products include industry-leading CFExpress Type A cards with support for the 4.0 standard, the new Envoy SSD for a compact external SSD with a USB-C interface, and new capacities for their Envoy Pro Elektron and Envoy Pro Mini SSDs.

CFExpress Type A Cards

CFExpress Type A cards are a new addition to OWC's Atlas Pro line of memory cards. OWC previously offered SDXC and Type B cards, but now Type A cards will be available as well. Type A is compatible with the Sony's a9 III, a1, a7S III, a7 IV, a7RV , FX3, FX6, and FX30, along with any other camera that accepts Type A. With read speeds of 1,850 MB/s and write speeds of 1,700 MB/s, along with VPG200 certification, these cards meet all the current standards for 8K video, slow motion capture, and ultra-high frame rates, like the a9 III's 120 fps capture rates. Furthermore, the 1,850 MB/s read speeds should allow for very fast ingest after capture. Users who already have a Type B reader will be pleased to see the Type A cards also come with an A to B adapter allowing use with Type B readers.

The Atlas Pro CFexpress 4.0 Type A cards are available for pre-order, priced at $319.99 for 480 GB and $519.99 for 960 GB. Additionally, Atlas CFexpress Type B readers are available, starting at $79.99.

Envoy SSD

Designed for portability without sacrificing performance, the Envoy line has a new addition: the Envoy SSD. Slotting in as a smaller size product relative to their Envoy Pro models, the Envoy still features an aircraft-grade aluminum housing and sustained speeds of 1000MB/s, thanks to the thermal-friendly design. It's a palm-sized drive featuring a USB-C interface capable of USB 3.2 10 GB/s speeds. The housing is crush and drop resistant, but full IP ruggedization and waterproofing is reserved for the Envoy Pro Elektron. Pricing starts at $149.99 for the 1 TB model and $279.99 for the 2 TB model, with shipments expected to commence in May.

Capacity Upgrades

OWC is also expanding existing product lines with higher-capacity models. The Envoy Pro Elektron, their midrange portable SSD with an IP67 rating and around 1000MB/s speeds, will now receive a 4TB model. Previously available in 1 and 2TB capacities, the new 4TB model will be available in early May.

OWC's Envoy Pro Mini, which features external SSD performance in a thumb-drive form factor, is a particularly interesting product for mobile videographers. It features both a USB-C and USB-A interface, with top speeds of up to 946MB/s. iPhone videographers who shoot ProRes will now have a great option for moving those bulky files around. Previously available in 500GB and 1TB capacities, the new model will feature 2 TB of storage for an MSRP of $299.99, and is available April 11.
