RED announced the GEMINI 5K S35, a new low-light Super 35mm sensor option in its EPIC-W camera system with Dual Sensitivity for both low-light and normal-light high-dynamic-range recording.
The new Low Light setting causes a small half-stop drop in overall dynamic range, but introduces the benefit of shifting the entire sensitivity range two stops higher to expose more detail in shadows in any extreme low-light scenarios. While overall image quality and resolution won't be as high as with the DRAGON or HELIUM sensors, the exposure latitude in Low Light mode is definitely an area where this sensor shines over the others.
This is not the same as shifting the ISO, as the Low Light setting actually changes how the sensor sees the light and doesn't simply digitally boost the signal. For normal daylight shooting, users should still use the standard light settings and will still get excellent 5K S35 performance out of the new GEMINI sensor.
