Some Helpful Advice for Beginners Regarding Shutter Speed

Along with aperture and ISO, shutter speed is one of the three fundamental parameters that determine the overall exposure and look of a photo. Shutter speed has both a technical and creative aspect, as you can also leverage it for making effects that would not be visible to the naked eye. Perhaps the most important advice I would give a beginner photographer regarding shutter speed would be not to sacrifice it for the sake of keeping your ISO low. Many photographers try to use too slow a shutter speed in an attempt to keep their ISO value lower to reduce the amount of noise in a photo, which often leads to blurry photos due to camera shake or subject motion. Remember, there is a lot modern software can do to reduce noise in a photo, but once an image is blurry due to camera shake or subject motion, there is not much you can do save it. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Duffy.
