Sony Announces New Gear, a6000 Among Host of Others

Sony just announced the release of new cybershot and mirrorless cameras along with the release of a new lens. There has been a lot of buzz about some of the products they announced and we are happy to finally get the official announcement.

The a6000 was definitely one of the top conversations in all of the rumor forums and I think there are a lot of people right now very happy to finally see it available. Sony is showing that they are trying to stay on their "A-game" for 2014 in the photography scene.

With all of these new products being put out, what can we start to expect from Sony for the rest of this year? They have proven many times that they are a company that should not be counted out in the photography brand war.  With these new products, it is just another reminder that Sony is here and doesn't plan on leaving.  Let's take a look at the list of what is available.

New Sony Products:

The Sony a6000 was all the talk online throughout many rumor forums.  The camera seems like it is definitely going to pack a punch and be the perfect anywhere anytime shooter.

not a chance miller! ha you better order that from me, ps. i left my phone at home today incase you try to tell me how awesome this is.

why no 1080p?

it is, well, it's both... depending on what mode you choose it's either 1080i or 1080p (it's hard to see, but it says "1080i/p"

a typo on the hyperlink ? Sony 70-200mm f/4-5.6 G LENS $1,498
I think its a f4.

Fixed...Thank you.

Usually writers get thrown in the snake pit for errors such as this...but I'll give him a pass cause he's new.

Not weather sealed. A serious letdown to many photographers since a day at a windy beach might seriously affect (shorten) the cameras lifespan. Salty air and sand will do their best to kill off the camera.
To me it's a lamentable omission to not weather seal a body especially since it costs only a few bucks more to do so. Many of Sony smartphones and tablets are even water proof, so why not weather seal a camera ?

A6000 certainly a decent replacement for the NEX-6 (although it has a worse EVF?), but unless you specifically require faster AF or high MP count I don't think there's anything here that would warrant existing NEX-6 owners from upgrading (other than to have the latest gadget of course!).

As a NEX-6 owner, I was kind of hoping for something that would be a real high-spec, top of the range NEX-7 replacement in case that offered something worthwhile upgrading to. I suppose such a camera may still be announced by Sony (one rumour site has suggested so), but for now I'm content with my NEX-6. As with all these things, unless the camera is actually holding me back, upgrading to a new one would only be for the short-term hit of getting a new toy.

So, let's just say that you have no affiliation to either brand. Do you buy the XT1 or the 6000? Why? I must admit, I really like the app capabilities of the Sony. Is it just me or is Samsung, Sony and to an extent, Fuji really leading the way with new models that are incorporating "future proof" features.

i would take the XT1 myself... im a big fan of the dials and such and the EVF of the XT1 looks amazing
