Surprising Micro Four Third Low Light Video Experiment

If you have previously been told micro four third cameras are not the best option for shooting video in low light situations. Then you just might be pleasantly surprised when you see the results of this video.

Before we go any further, in most cases full frame cameras are better in low light situations than micro four third sensor based cameras. I think most of us will agree with that but seeing the results of this video may just open your mind to some new possibilities.

You may even be shocked when you discover this video was shot entirely by moonlight on the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. So how is it possible to shoot in such low light conditions with the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k

I don’t want to spoil all of the great information presented in this video but I will give you a small hint. The super moon was the main light source for this video and it can appear to be as much as three times brighter than a regular moon.

To achieve similar results like you see in this video, you will also require a lens with a wide aperture to allow as much light as possible to reach your sensor. You will also have to shoot at an ISO higher than you may feel comfortable with on most normal occasions.

Having said that, you may be shocked at the results Josh was able to achieve in this video example. On top of a few gems and secrets he shares in this video, he also applied some noise reduction using the neat video plugin in Davinci Resolve.

After you watch this video you may change your mind about what is possible with micro four third cameras and shooting in low light environments. If you have been struggling to get good results in low light situations then check out this video and let me know what you think of the results in the comment section below.

Typo : Supermoons can appear 30% brighter ,not 3 times brighter .

I kept waiting for this guy to try to sell me a used car.

That was actually one of the more informative videos I've seen on fstoppers.
And an interesting challenge to do...
