Gaps in Stars
Hello,
I shot this star trail photo the other night. I actually left my camera out while I went to bed. This is made up of 495 photos. Each a 30 second exposure using my camera's internal intervelometer. With a 1 second interval. The lowest it will go.
My question is why did I get so many gaps in my trails in this. I did another one the previous night only using 165 photos and it came out much better. Albeit, it also had a few small gaps in the trails. What am I doing wrong here? Any advice to get smoother long trails with out gaps?
I used the lighten blend mode in photoshop to blend the trails and clean up any planes and satellites. To get rid of the planes and other distractions I just paint them out with a black brush since I'm using lighten blend mode. Could this be the reason I'm getting those gaps? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmmm....are you totally sure that you have all the frames included? I ask because I notice that there are significant gaps, and that they appear to occur on all the star trails, not just in certain sections. While clouds can cause gaps in star trails occasionally, they don't do it like this, and they typically look different, with some tapering. So that's what I would look for first. Also, apologies if I come off as pedantic, as I totally don't mean that to be this way. It's just where I would look first.
Pleasing composition, and everything else is good. And a 1-second interval should work perfectly fine.
As far as I know yes all the frames are included. I ran this through starstax instead of photoshop and it came out much better.
I'm at a loss then. Something seems to be missing from all the star trails in every part of the sky, and if it's not missing frames (or weirdly masked frames), then I'm not sure. Hopefully you can work that out. It'd be worth doing more sleuthing since it's a pleasing image.
Glad that it came out better in StarStax, although I have no idea why that would be.
