This is old. In May 1970, the Ohio State Guard murdered four unarmed students at Kent State University, which triggered nationwide unrest on college campuses nationwide, including Allegheny College where I was a sophomore at the time. This image was taken during a candlelight vigil in downtown Meadville, a few blocks from the college.
At the top, it says, "BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS." Beneath the graphics, it says, "WORLD PEACE." Not to introduce politics into an art group, but it seemed appropriate for the day. We should also remember what George Orwell once wrote, "All art is political."
FWIW, I never bothered to process this before today, as it was too blurry. It was handheld, and I think it was at 1/15 second, which was necessary since the only available light was the candles. Fortunately, technology progresses, and this was helped by the super-sharpening in Topaz Photo AI. There were a lot of artifacts, though, but some use of Photoshop's remove tool took care of most of that.
Perfect the way it is, you did a great job Andrew. I was a freshman... but in high school.
I agree, perfect the way it is and thanks for sharing.
Nice memory! Good job, Andrew. I was just born before this photo was taken. Wow!
Thanks Andrew, this tells a powerful story.
I'd be interested in seeing the original, as I feel that often the imperfections we strive to eliminate are often those that add atmosphere to an image.
Great job getting the message across.
