Good afternoon everyone. I'm new to F-Stoppers and I'm interested to see what it's like for what we really all want - constructive criticism. My son is up from London for the weekend so I pulled him in for a quick ten minute portrait. This is my first photo posted to FS. Be gentle with me.

These are a highly endangered species, and the rescue center has this young male tiger, which they hope will breed with their already existing female Malayan tiger.
A new arrival at the rescue center. She was very friendly and very flirty, rolling about on her back and meowing, then staring at you as if she might be hungry. A magnificently beautiful animal

The portrait is technically good. The expression criticism could be all subjective. If this was an actor's headshot or a musician's one, it's great. I just like to have a bit more of an attitude, but as I said, it's a subjective thing in this case.
Thank you for your feedback. My son would have prefered to smile, but I just wanted quite a neutral expression.

Nice photo. I like the light on the face. would suggest next time you cast either a little light on the backdrop or use a kicker to create a rim light. It’s very hard to tell where the shirt stops and the background.

Tell us how you set this up! I've only produced natural light portraits but I'm eager to try out some controlled studio settings. (Good looking kid, by the way.)
Thank you. Simply two softboxes at forty-five degrees to the subject with the camera-left one dialled down a bit. Then lots of editing (Photoshop and Silver Efex Pro 2).
