If I had to give advice to a new landscape photographer, it would be to bring along a longer focal length lens, something like a 70-200mm f/4. Landscape photographers often default to using a wide angle lens, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that; after all, there is a reason they are so popular in the genre. However, longer focal lengths can just as effective, and they can allow you to get a lot more out of a single scene by picking out isolated details and creating more abstract shots.
