How to Capture Unique Photos in Popular Locations

There are many iconic and popular locations in landscape photography, and while they offer stunning imagery, with that comes a tricky issue: creating unique images that stand out from the thousands of others also created at that spot. How do you go about that? This excellent video tutorial follows a professional landscape photographer as he does just that.

Coming to you from Michael Shainblum, this fantastic video tutorial discusses how to create unique landscape images in popular locations. As you will see, one of the best tools for this is a telephoto lens. It can be tempting in locations like Yosemite to whip out a wide angle lens, and certainly, there is nothing wrong with that. However, those are the sort of images viewers are more likely to have seen before. On the other hand, more isolated shots are less likely to be immediately recognizable, while the longer focal lengths may force you into positions that are less common and that offer a fresh perspective on well-known spots. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Shainblum.

Photographing the over-photographed is a challenge that haunts me for days before I visit an iconic location. You did a great job explaining your approach and your photos demonstrate how effective it is. Cheers
