How to Use Editing to Add Depth to Landscape Photo

One of the classic challenges of photography is bringing a sense of depth to what is a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional scene. Understanding how to manipulate both color and contrast in post-processing can go a long way in helping you achieve this. This awesome video tutorial will show you how to use tools in Lightroom to give your landscape images a sense of depth.

Coming to you from Adam Gibbs, this excellent video tutorial will show you how to edit both color and contrast in Lightroom to add a sense of depth to your landscape images. While most of us are used to manipulating contrast in order to create a sense of depth in an image, playing colors off each other can be an equally subtle but effective technique. As you will see, Gibbs employs linear gradients to selectively adjust color temperature across the photo, making the background cooler and the foreground warmer. Not only does this color contrast add a sense of depth, it can add a lot of visual interest to the frame as well. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Gibbs.
