A Beginner's Guide to Using Lighting Modifiers for Video

Photography and video have some crucial differences between them, but perhaps the most important similarity between them is that good lighting is crucial to getting the best results. If you are new to video and working on building your skills, check out this great video tutorial that will show you a variety of different lighting modifiers and how to use them to create professional-level results.

Coming to you from Westcott Lighting, this excellent video tutorial will show you a variety of different modifiers for lighting video. By far, one of the most common mistakes I see newer creatives make when it comes to lighting is creating the wrong mood. As a beginner, you worry a lot about getting things technically correct, and while this is, of course, important, is can lead to becoming overly reliant on one or two preferred setups. Be sure that in addition to ensuring your subject is well lit, you are considering what you want to convey with the lighting and what the content on screen calls for. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
