The Different Types of Studio Light Stands and Which Are Right for Your Work

We spend a lot of time talking about different kinds of lights and modifiers, but once you have spent a lot of money on your setup, you will want to make sure the stand you put it on will hold it safely and allow you to maneuver it as needed. This helpful video tutorial will show you four commonly used types of studio light stands, when they are appropriate, and how to use them.

Coming to you from Lindsay Adler with Adorama TV, this awesome video tutorial details four different types of studio light stands (along with the mini boom, which is my favorite niche piece of equipment), when they are used, and how to use them. It always pains me when I see photographers using a cheap stand for an expensive light and modifier. Not only does it put your gear at risk, it can put you and clients at risk, whether through getting pinched, something tipping over, or some other mishap. Sure, it is not as fun to invest in a light stand as it is the light itself, but a good one will normally last your entire career and make your life a lot easier. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Adler.
