Godox Announces AD400Pro II With Faster Freeze Mode and Smarter Wireless Control

Godox has announced the AD400Pro II, the follow-up to its popular 400 Ws all-in-one outdoor strobe. The original AD400Pro became a go-to for many photographers thanks to its balance of power, portability, and cost. With the new generation, Godox is adding refinements aimed at making the light faster, more flexible, and easier to use in multi-light setups. Here's everything new in the strobe.

Faster Performance and More Control

The biggest upgrade is a new Freeze mode that pushes flash durations as short as 1/27,770 s. For photographers working with sports, dance, or any subject in motion, that kind of speed makes it possible to freeze action with tack-sharp precision. High-speed sync up to 1/8000 s remains on board, giving shooters the option to balance flash with daylight when working outdoors.

The AD400Pro II also introduces “one-tap” wireless sync when paired with the new Godox X3 trigger. Instead of digging through menus and channels, all connected lights can be synced instantly across 16 groups and 32 channels. Each group can be assigned a color indicator on the strobe’s new full-color display, which means identifying and adjusting individual lights in a multi-strobe setup is far more straightforward than before.

Practical Upgrades

Godox hasn’t overlooked everyday usability. The built-in 30 W bi-color modeling lamp now covers a 2800 K–6000 K range and can be dimmed from 10 to 100 percent. That makes it viable not only as a focusing aid but also as a continuous (albeit low-intensity) light source for video. Battery performance is strong, delivering up to 460 full-power flashes per charge, and the included AC adapter offers the option for limitless wall power or use with a power station.

Compatibility remains a strong point. In addition to Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, and Panasonic TTL systems, the AD400Pro II now adds Pentax and Leica support. Modifiers aren’t an issue either: the strobe comes with a Godox mount and includes a Bowens adapter, keeping it open to the wide ecosystem of softboxes, reflectors, and lighting tools you already have.

Who It’s For

The AD400Pro II looks to be a versatile workhorse for photographers who need a single light to cover both studio and location work. Wedding shooters can take advantage of the portability and fast recycle times, while commercial photographers will appreciate the precision of the Freeze mode for splash and product photography. With its mix of power, speed, and flexible mounting options, it’s positioned to continue Godox’s strong lineup of strobes ranging from small to large.

The Godox AD400Pro II is available for preorder now at B&H.
