How to Light and Shoot Moody and Dark Portraits

The beauty of artificial lighting is that it allows you to create just about any photo your imagination can envision with total control over every last detail. And while we often aim for bright, soft, and flattering lighting in our portraits, if you want to explore your artistic side a bit more, a dark and moody look can yield some very interesting images. This fantastic video tutorial will show you how to light and shoot those dark and moody portraits.

Coming to you from Gavin Hoey with Adorama TV, this awesome video tutorial will show you how to light and shoot dark and moody portraits. I think exploring these kinds of creative lighting projects is very important. Not only will they expand your creative palette and give you lots of ideas for a rainy day, moving away from the standard bright and soft portrait setup we are all used to will help you become more versatile and able to tackle problems and/or client requests whenever they arise down the road. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Hoey.
