This Video Shows Why Lighting Makes the Photo

No doubt, we are constantly bombarded by temptation for newer and better cameras and lenses, and we often delude ourselves into believing that they will flip a switch that will suddenly make our photos vastly better. At the end of the day, it is all about the light, and this awesome video pits an iPhone versus a Hasselblad to show you just how true that is.

Coming to you from Karl Taylor, this neat video demonstrates the importance of good lighting in photography by showing just how similar the images from an iPhone and top-shelf Hasselblad can be with proper lighting. Of course, this is not to say that a phone can keep stride with a medium format body (or any professional camera, for that matter) in every situation. There are numerous reasons why professionals need advanced cameras, and as soon as the good light disappears, phones will generally begin to show their weaknesses rather quickly. Rather, what it does show is that when you have control of the lighting and strong knowledge of the fundamentals of its behavior, you can craft top-notch images whether you have that $30,000 Hasselblad or just a modest cameraphone. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Taylor.
