How to Take Advantage of Lightroom's New Masking Tools

Lightroom got a major upgrade to its masking capabilities in 2021, and the new features can make your editing far more efficient and easier. If you have not yet taken the opportunity to dive into the capabilities, this great video tutorial will show you everything you need to know to get the most out of them.

Coming to you from our friend, Pye Jirsa, with Adorama TV, this helpful video tutorial will show you the ins and outs of Lightroom's new masking capabilities. I have been really wowed by Lightroom's new capabilities so far. Not only has the new masking panel made it far easier to quickly dial in a precise mask, it has legitimately improved the quality of my images. For example, I often shoot concerts in a large recital hall with a glass wall behind the stage. Behind that wall is a garden with a few trees. I often need to bring up the exposure on the stage and on the garden, which in turn blows out the sky. Usually, it would just be way too much work to try to mask the sky around the leaves and the stage wall supports for what are often dozens of photos. Lightroom's new masking tools are so good that I can easily take care of the sky in just a few seconds. It's really quite impressive. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Jirsa.

Thank you for catching that!

WOW. I loved that. I've been a little cranky that they changed everything on me. I need to take some time to learn more of the new updates. Thanks for sharing

Really well done. Please do make more talking about the other types of masking.
