Have you taken a photo on-location of a wonderful building and wish you could have stayed longer to capture it at night? Sometimes our schedule can get a bit chaotic or perhaps the location isn't accessible at night, so what can you do?
One option would be to edit your photos and transform them from a daytime shot into a nighttime shot using some Adobe Photoshop sorcery, or similar editing program. Sheldon Evans demonstrates his technique to change his daytime shot into a night using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. If you only have Photoshop, you can use the Camera Raw filter option to make the adjustments instead of using Lightroom.
You can follow along as Evans shows all the adjustments he made prior to importing the photo into Photoshop where he combined a night sky photo to give the scene some stars. You could even take it to the next level and replace the sky completely.
Using adjustment layers, you can go through the shot and turn on the lights, just pay attention to details. Getting the shot in the camera will save you time sitting behind the computer screen, but if time is the factor that prevented you from staying longer to get that night shot, you now can use this knowledge to transform the shot.
