This is a masterful use of contrast and minimalism. What I love about this photo is how the skeletal trees stand as stark remnants of time, their dark forms etched against the glowing dunes. The tonal separation between the warm sand and the cool, desolate foreground creates an almost surreal atmosphere. It’s a powerful reminder that simplicity can be just as compelling as complexity in photography.

In 2025, 1 week before we arrived at Deadvlei it had water in the bottom of the vlei. And now again in 2026 (a year later) Deadvlei is flooded again.
