Ancient Eggs

New Mexico is home to some of the most inhospitable—and fascinating—landscapes I’ve ever encountered. Its desert regions are absolutely stunning, filled with unusual rock formations that seem made to be photographed.

In this case, we decided that these strange "stone eggs" would be the perfect subject to spend the night with and watch the Milky Way pass overhead. Honestly, this and other spots turned out to be ideal for night photography: the walks were short, the terrain mostly flat, the nighttime temperature pleasantly mild, and most importantly—there was no one else around. Just us, the rocks, and the stars.

I hope you enjoy the photo, and to those of you who love night photography, I hope you're making the most of these nights—even with the heat we're having in Spain.
