Continuing day two of the San Francisco Photo Adventure, our morning walk led us along a dirt trail between Crissy Field and Crissy Marsh. It was there that I captured this image — a veritable metropolis existing right under our noses.
The overcast skies seemed to emphasize the rich colors and intricate structures of the many types of fungi and lichens, their colonies steadily expanding among the supporting trees and shrubs.

Thanks Paul!
I think I see some black mold in there...if it is, wouldn't that be a fungus?
I've tried to modify the composition to my interpretation of what you wrote, Paul. I do think it is a stronger image as modified, but will leave this up for a day or two to gather any more input. Thanks again
Frank just one suggestion compositionally lower and closer with a shift to the right. Also I think they are all lichens.
