Cathedral of the Atlantic Dawn

Some locations demand patience. Others demand humility.

A few weeks ago, I returned to Praia das Catedrais, one of the most iconic coastal landscapes in Galicia and the Mariña Lucense. This time, it was all about sunrise — and about finally photographing a section of the beach I had never properly explored before.

Tide planning, missed opportunities, arriving without a clear vision… I’ve experienced all of that here. But this morning felt different.

I positioned myself beneath one of the massive stone arches, using it as a natural frame — almost like standing inside a cave, looking out towards the Atlantic. In front of me, a monumental rock formation rose against the soft colours of dawn. Further to the right, more arches echoed into the distance, guiding the eye towards the horizon.

A retreating wave had just washed the sand clean, leaving delicate water trails and subtle textures across the beach — perfect leading lines pulling everything together.

Even though I’m genuinely happy with these images, I don’t feel finished here.

Some places aren’t conquered in a single visit.
They’re slowly understood.
