Frank Lloyd Wright's building has the basic shape of a rotunda. The circle is the main motif of the floor plan and the terraced levels. Overall, the museum incorporates various geometric shapes such as triangles, circles, ovals, arches, and squares. In addition to the main building, there is a small rotunda, which today provides access to spaces used as offices. With the museum’s expansion in the early 1990s, the tower designed by Wright was also completed. Frank Lloyd Wright designed a winding ramp with a three-percent gradient, along which the artworks are displayed, in contrast to the typical museum layout, where visitors are guided through a series of interconnected rooms. Wright’s design includes an elevator that transports visitors to the highest point of the ramp, allowing them to walk down past the artworks.
