The Last of the Vine

Autumn in Sonoma County has a way of changing the vineyards almost overnight. The grapes are still hanging heavy on the vine while the leaves begin giving up their summer green for reds, rusts and faded gold.

I photographed this grapevine here in Sonoma County and worked the image with texture to move it away from a literal photograph and closer to the way the scene felt to me: aged, weathered and distinctly California wine country.

I wanted the grapes to remain the anchor of the image while everything around them slowly fades into the background, much the way one season gives way to the next.
