Top Five Smartphone Cameras of 2018 Compared in Blind Test

The best smartphone cameras of 2018 are tested side by side in this blind test. Are you surprised by the results?

Oftentimes it’s easy to get caught up in the marketing hype for a new smartphone, and if the company is really good at it, one will defend the quality of their images even if the evidence proves it to be subpar. Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee pits five of the best smartphone cameras against each other and it’s up to you to determine the winner.

The smartphones compared in this video are the iPhone XHuawei P20 ProOnePlus 6Pixel 2 XL, and Galaxy S9+. In a number of different settings and with different subjects, Brownlee shot images with each of the cameras. While he doesn’t reveal his personal preferences or what smartphone is which until the very end, he does explain what to look out for, such as sharpness or white balance, in each of the scenarios presented.

Let us know what smartphone camera you thought was the best in the comments below.

I had D and E tied.

Really! Should I compare cameras based on images from a video. Not the most serious way of doing things. Give me the original images and then I can say what I like the most.

With comparison testing I don't have an issue with it. You are basing everything off the photos next to it, so it's still valid to compare what does what better.

My take before I saw what they were:

First preference : E
Second preference : C
Most overprocessed images : B
Lowest quality : A
Least consistent : D

I had C as my winner, B was 2nd but I had notes on how oversaturated it was constantly. A and D scored the lowest for me.

The low light capability of my Pixel 2 continues to amaze me.

1. E 2. B and then probably 3. C

C, then A and E, then B and D
